Tortilis - Day 1 PM

Tortilis is one of the few camps (in our experience) where you dine at individual tables as opposed to 'en famille' so we had our delicious lunch at a small table overlooking the valley and of course Mt Kili.

We then had a couple of hours downtime before we were off out again with Junior.

Amboseli National Park is famed for its elephants, some of the largest in Africa.  Although it has been very dry here recently, the animals looked in good condition but the herds were relatively small (when food/water is plentiful herds of 200 odd can form, but they divide up in times of drought and regroup in the rainy season).

Ostrich f.

It's easy to identify the sexes - brown=female, black=male (the neck and legs go bright pink in the breeding season)

Zebra are very skittish and often turn their backs on you.

When we got back from our drive this afternoon, a chap came over and said “hello”, it was the man (and his French wife) who’d sat behind us on the BA flight to Nairobi.  The lady had kindly told me various places we flew over and picked up my nose spray when I didn’t know I’d even dropped it.  They live in Paris but were visiting their daughter in Nairobi.  He’d asked us whereabouts we were staying but obviously hadn’t taken it in and they, along with Jessica the daughter and her friend, had driven from Nairobi (5 hours rough road) for a few days.  Charming family.
