Lewa House

The entrance

We got back late morning and jumped in the pool to cool off.  It's the first time I've swam with ponies and Jersey cows grazing on the nearby lawn.

Breakfast is usually taken on the lawn.

And lunch by the pool

There's also a nice terrace area

You never know when or where you'll bump into the ponies (just outside our pod) which can be quite disconcerting if you're not "horsey"; sweet as they are they have no manners and will happily barge you.

There is a netted vegetable garden and working areas at the back.

The dining and lounge areas.

Calum and Sophie are the owners and hosts.  She is 4th generation Kenyan and obviously comes from money (various members of her immediate family owned the whole Lewa valley  before placing it in a conservancy trust).   Indeed, as the first born of her generation, Sophie is an honorary member of the legendary Muthaiga Club in Nairobi (think Out of Africa where Karen Blixen (Meryl Streep) was initially refused entry but ultimately received a standing ovation before she finally left Kenya).

The pair met at uni in Edinburgh when he was studying zoology and before coming back to Lewa they ran various camps in the Masai Mara.
