Serian - Day 3 PM

Roisin has made us a special chocolate cake, how kind of her.  She really has gone out of her way to make everything perfect for us (after the bad start she's probably a little scared of us!)

So we sat watching some vervet monkeys in the distance (hence the rubbish photo) whilst eating the cake.

And an equally rubbish photo of a Mousebird

Just near the camp we found this Hyena looking very contemplative.

They really are beginning to grow on me.

Then blow-me-down James took us straight to two male lions with full manes but alas as is the norm for male lions they were very dozy.

Although one of them did have the grace to get up at one point and make a bit of an effort to be interesting - he does look incredibly startled!

Look at the enormous rip in his tongue.

Unfortunately the light has faded so the photos are not very good.

I liked the shadow of this tree but being very greedy I would so have loved a leopard languishing in the lower branches.

After dusk we set off with a red searchlight to see what else we could find, no photos but we did see Scrub Hare and Slender Mongoose. Then it started to rain quite heavily with a bit of thunder and lightning so we suggested we head back to camp (we don't really enjoy driving aimlessly around in the hope you might see something, so the rain was a good excuse.

There are two resident Common Genets around the camp and they often appear at dinnertime to see what scraps can be found.  Tonight whilst enjoying an apero we suddenly saw a large piece of tin foil make its way outside – that was all the dinner rolls gone.  A bit later one of them helped itself to an uneaten sticky toffee pudding!!!
