Kicheche - Day 3 PM

Out again this afternoon, some new sightings but mostly repeats.

There is a huge 15ft Rock Python living in a warthog burrow on the way out of camp, it's been there for several months having eaten the entire warthog family.  Obviously when we leave camp in the mornings it's far too cold for it to be out, but in the afternoons it's usually sunning itself, until it hears/feels the trucks passing by.  We were first out this afternoon and Charles warned me to be ready as it moves pretty quickly.

Sure enough within a minute or so, it had slithered back down into its den.

Beautiful starlings (two different species; Superb and Glossy)

I loved watching this Common Ostrich m. walking along, its head just never stopped bobbing up and down.

Turtle (species unknown)

Speckled Pigeon

I took this for the Oxpeckers, but just look at the buffalo's face; eyes shut and dribble running from its mouth.

Dwarf Mongoose, a bit out of focus but the only one.

We came across a hyena den and they are actually rather attractive creatures when you study them.

Little Bee Eater

And of course I couldn't pass this LBR despite the rather tatty background.

Dik-dik

It looked like we might have something of a sunset tonight so we whizzed off to an open area and luckily there were a few giraffe wandering around.

They are very inquisitive animals

The sunset didn't quite live up to expectations but Charles let me out of the truck which made a welcome change of perspective.
